Hello everyone,
Had some issues with my email and had to create a new account. The previous thread is located: https://forum.lendacademy.com/index.php/topic,4828.0.html
A lot of you guys on here were very kind answering my questions prior to me signing up with Lending Club. I'll try to give an update monthly or so.
I started buying loans on 09-14-17 and I've been adding several to my account weekly.

I've been using LC picks (see other threads in the forum about them if you are unfamiliar) in order to pick which loans to invest in. My LC picks ranking is 69.1/82.
I don't work for LC picks nor am I family member or something. I just wanted to be transparent about how I make my choices.
Thanks again for all who helped out in the past.

I might be the only person on this forum that is happy with my Lending Club account. I think I came in after the the blood bath that a lot of you talk about.

That's a reasonable return for the past couple of years.

I'm still here. Been investing with LC for over 10 years now.

Yes you have and I'm grateful for your insights.
-
Also still here. Not posting as regular as before. And have been liquidating my taxable account down to a level where I can deduct all of my losses instead of building up future carryovers. But still reinvesting in my Roth IRA account though I have stopped adding more each year.

It does feel like it is going okay. Your views are always very welcome.
I think I could do better going forward (knocking on wood while I type that). I've narrowed down into various notes that I should and should not be investing in. It will be interesting to see how the account performs in the next six months.

Hello, JDII--
I notice that your NAR has risen by almost a percentage point over the last couple months, despite the dramatic downturn in the economy. As noted in another thread, this discrepancy can likely be explained by the fact that LC continues to class as Current many notes that are actually no longer being paid.
Have you checked to see how many of your "Current" notes are on Hardship Plan?

As noted in another thread, this discrepancy can likely be explained by the fact that LC continues to class as Current many notes that are actually no longer being paid.
Have you checked to see how many of your "Current" notes are on Hardship Plan?
My NAR has been trending up for months. It has trended up more since all this foolishness started in March. I would guess that a lot of notes that would be In Grace are in the Hardship category. It seems the NAR is counting them as Current. I haven't dived into the math on that but it feels like that is the case. I would bet most people are seeeing their NAR trend up right now.
What is going to happen in June and July is the real question.
43 of my notes are in Hardship. That would be 5.5% of my total notes and 7.5% of my current notes.
-
43 of my notes are in Hardship.
How do you check which notes are in Hardship? As noted in other threads, since sometime in March notes that go into Hardship are not flagged as such in the spreadsheet downloaded from Holdings. The only way I have found to check which notes are actually in Hardship is to view the details for each individual note. Is there a simpler way?

I eyeballed it. I looked at everything that was listed as Current but more than 30 days until next payment date. I supposed it could be higher for notes that may be in hardship and were pushed from March payments to May.
-
Here is my findings about the notes in the status of hardship plan/deferred payment. LC allows me to list such notes on the page of "Folio - Sell Notes". However, after I tried listing such notes for sale,
- they show up on the page of "Folio - My Account - Open Sell Orders"
- but, they don't actually shown up on the page of "Folio - Browse Notes".
So, this looks good news to folio buyers (avoid mistakenly buying such notes with inappropriate discount) and bad news to folio sellers (limitation to liquidate such notes at appropriate discount.)
Regardless, I think Lending Club should have made it a transparent process. However, they just disappointed me one more time.
-
I have experienced the exact same thing. "Supposedly marketable" since you can "list" it, but they won't list them as if they are in default. If you can list a note 30-120 late, but not hardship, something is W-R-O-N-G. No way around it. Dancing around another potential class action by investors?

Hopefully, you are realistic at the future of your returned after 18 months avg.

The current chart shows the mass exodus of retail investors. Almost no accounts less than 9 months old.
For perspective a comparison from around 5 years ago. A very different picture.

I don't think I could be any more realistic. The numbers will speak for themselves. Currently my returns are going up.
18 months is not a magic number that will automatically doom my returns.

I think it would be hard to compare the last 9 months to any other time period.

Very true but I miss your point. Once again the Fed has instituted "Zero Interest Rate Policy". The incentives to reach for yield by investors is possibly greater now than ever. That would argue for more rather than fewer LC investor accounts. At any rate the current chart obviously shows the exodus started much longer ago than 9 months and the retail investor base had essentially vanished by then; like smoke in the wind. Lately though I've actually been thinking LC should see an uptick in new retail investors chasing yield. There are very few fixed income alternatives that have a positive real rate of return. We'll see :)

We will indeed see. My crystal ball is no better than anyone else. We all just try to make the best choices we can.
Your point about the Fed are valid. My point is from March on it becomes hard to compare apples to apples. There were so many extremes both financially and emotionally in the world. Do the trends you point to continue and if so what does that mean for business? That is the question.
-
Couple of years ago, I had the same thought that LC will court retail investors when institutions bail and retail investors will come back when they can't find another attractive alternative (fixed income not generating anything, equity market very volatile).
But, I think retail investor wagon will not arrive at the LC station. Neither LC has any interest in bringing them back, they seem to be focused on getting retail funds through other indirect means such as banking, Nor retail investors are interested in tying up funds for 3-5 years without a way to redeem early.
But as you said, we will see.

Both your reasons seem quite true. Without the existence of Folio and the liquidity it provided if needed I'm not sure I'd have invested in LC notes in the first place. That was always a very big deal to me. The day Prosper dropped Folio was the day I dropped Prosper. Never bought a single Prosper note after that announcement. When I exited LC I used Folio in a substantial way and worried the entire time it could be lost at a moments notice; particularly after it was bought by Goldman.

It is clear there are some people who just don't like Lending Club. I have to wonder why a thread about my returns draws negative responses about past experiences.
Sorry for anyone who got beat up in the past. Maybe if my returns go down I could join the party.

There's no correlation between my well earned low opinion of LC and my desire for you or anyone else to do very well with investments there. These are two separate things. I wish nothing but the best for you and apologize if you were offended. It was not my intent. None of my comments were directed towards you or your investment methodology. My posts were only information for your and others consideration to be dealt with as desired. I enjoy reading your reporting. Since I left LC it's about the only information I see regarding how things are going there.
