Investors - LC / Renaud Laplanche Banned from Securities Industry

Not what I expected to see from the SEC on Twitter!

Last week, I saw this academic paper come across NBER and thought the abstract was interesting. A few days ago, a news outlet covered it.   Further enhances my skepticism of the benefits of real estate marketplace lending.  A long held fear of mine is that these platforms would make it too easy for "dumb" money to bid up prices and cause speculation, given the retail investor belief that collateral somehow makes it safe.

Mounting evidence suggests that the notion that the 2007 crash happened because people with shoddy credit borrowed to buy houses they couldn’t afford is just plain wrong. The latest comes in a new NBER working paper arguing that it was wealthy or middle-class house-flipping speculators who blew up the bubble to cataclysmic proportions, and then wrecked local housing markets when they defaulted en masse.

General Lending Club Discussion / LendingClub Withdraws
« on: August 10, 2016, 11:12:03 AM »
I don't withdraw from LC often, but recently I've noticed it's recognized a day later with my bank. Has this always been the case? If so why do deposits take so much longer lol

Investors - LC / Reduced Cash Drag
« on: August 01, 2016, 06:02:22 PM »
Isn't this a good thing?

We recently updated our loan listing process. Loans will be listed for at least 14 days (unless fully committed earlier) and up to 30 days.  Historically most loans have been fully committed in about a week*.  Additionally, under our new process, most loans are listed after they have been approved.  This reduces the likelihood that loans to which investors commit will not issue and that investor’s committed cash will be returned uninvested.

Investors - LC / Lending Club Loan Demand
« on: June 10, 2016, 10:39:31 AM »
Did this get posted? LC is already using their cash for loans.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/new-lendingclub-mistake-shows-loan-demand-issues-persist-1465565247

The new filing showed that LendingClub had bought $7.2 million worth of the notes itself in the period that was revised in May, the first time that LendingClub has held on to loans rather than immediately selling them to investors.

Peter's snapshot of the Deloitte research made me wonder what people think the sustainable competitive advantages for companies like LC and SoFi are?

Investors - LC / Banks Entering P2P Lending
« on: June 24, 2015, 06:58:39 AM »
I was reading an article about an upcoming bank IPO.  Part of their plan of use of proceeds is to establish a peer lending platform.  The bank is small as well, only $500 million ish in assets.  Interesting how things are changing
